Black Clover, New Manga that Mimics Naruto?
Black Clover is a manga by Yuki Tabata. The manga debuted on Weekly Shonen Jump on February 16, 2015. Yuki Tabata itself is not a new name among the mangaka, in 2011 through one-shot Hungry Joker he won first place in Golden Future Cup magazine. The one-shot manga was then serialized, but eventually stopped for the first 6 months of release due to its lack of popularity.
Black Clover himself tells the story of Asta, a teenager who has since been left in front of a church door in the poorest village on the ground. His dream since childhood is to become a Wizard King as often told in the legend, unfortunately he does not have any magic ability at all. Whereas in this world, the power of magic is everything. But of course, too early to give up. Asta then physically trains her everyday, hoping it will help her to become stronger.
Ever since you opened the first page, Black Clover has been presenting a mysterious world with a setting where the magical world of fantasy. This certainly reminds us how Naruto and One Piece have a wealth of world setting that can not be imitated by other manga. All shonen readers must understand, there are three things a shonen manga must have. First is the power of the backdrop, the characters are so memorable, and the dream! Black Clover shows these three things clearly at the beginning of the chapter.
The similarity with Naruto
Although a manga that is so promising, Black Clover was quite a lot of negative response. Some readers accused Black Clover of imitating some of the things Naruto did. In chapter two, there is a test to become a knight who is so similar to the Chūnin test in Naruto. Asta who states Yuno as his rival, also reminds us how Naruto declared Sasuke as his rival. The figure of Yuno is so talented, of course also reminds us of Sasuke.
Then on chapter 17, Clover Kingdom has to deal with Diamond Kingdom on a mission. This provides a familiar atmosphere, where Clover Kingdom feels not much different keradaannya with Konohagakure, while Diamond Kingdom like Sunagakure.
If you've read all the naruto chapters, you'll feel that the fight between Asta and Mars in this chapter feels so similar to the fight between Naruto and Gaara on the Chuunin exam. In Black Clover it is explained that Mars is trained to be a weapon, where Gaara is also used as Jinchuuriki Shukaku as Sunagakure's secret weapon.
The Promising Manga
So, is Black Clover only a manga that imitates Naruto? No. Black Clover has nothing to do with the ninja world. Even if there are some similarities, Black Clover just borrow the concept to form his own world. Similar to One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach inspired by Dragon Ball, Magi inspired by FMA, it is possible that Black Clover is inspired by Naruto or Fairy Tail.
As a Manga that has not even been a year running, it's too early to say it as a Manga that fails just because of the similarity of some concepts. To be sure, Black Clover is one of the new manga that is so promising to be anticipated new chapter every week.
